We're lucky to have a horse chestnut tree growing in our outside area. The children have recently been enjoying collecting the fallen conkers, breaking them open and using them in the mud kitchen. We realised that the children didn't know 'why' a horse chestnut tree grows a conker so we made a simple 'Life cycle of a conker' to help us to explain.

Autumn transient art! A black plastic table cloth, gold paper borders and horse chestnut resources!
We had been given a huge pumpkin and had placed it into the Exploration Station. The children enjoyed smelling it, tapping it, carrying it and even drawing on it. Eventually we cut the pumpkin open for the children to explore...
Following this we watched some videos about Harvest time and how vegetables grow. Then we provided lots more vegetables to investigate - the children were inspired to pick the beans from our own beanstalk too!
Here are a few of the fab '#autumnselfie's that our families sent in to us!
In 'The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza' the Little Red Hen checks her cupboard to see if she has the ingredients for a pizza. She doesn't but she does find other things such as beans, sugars and spices and different jams! We used this page to inspire lots of fun learning opportunities!
